Flood Insurance is NOT COVERED by the standard home insurance policy, or by most commercial property insurance policies. Flood insurance is a separate policy, and must be purchased separately. Policies are offered through the National Flood Insurance Program, offered through FEMA. Private insurers also offer flood insurance, outside of the NFIP program.
According to FEMA, just one inch of floodwater can cause up to $25,000 in repairs. With a flood insurance policy, protection is available for buildings and personal property.
